Supported via our strategic partnership with WSUP.
Gasia Poa is a waste management company in Kisumu, Kenya. Founded in 2017, the business delivers hygienic and safe pit-emptying services to low-income communities.
In its early stages, Gasia Poa has focused on developing a business plan, implementing safe working practices (including provision of personal protective equipment and vaccinations for operatives), and marketing the service to customers.
To enable Gasia Poa to be successful, improvements to the regulatory environment are also essential.
WSUP is working with the Kisumu County Public Health Office to develop standard operating procedures, which act as guidelines for pit-emptiers—encouraging informal providers to formalise their services, stimulating competition and raising standards all round.
