IntoUniversity is an award-winning education charity supporting young people from disadvantaged backgrounds into higher education.
Students from the most disadvantaged backgrounds are nearly four times less likely to go to university than their peers from the most advantaged backgrounds, and they are over ten-and-a-half times less likely to attend the most selective universities. This makes it harder for them to succeed in a competitive job market. It also means they are much more likely to remain in poverty as adults.
IntoUniversity was founded to address this issue. Since 2002, the charity has opened 24 learning centres across England, each providing an award-winning programme of after-school academic support, mentoring and workshops to support young people from disadvantaged backgrounds to achieve a university place or another chosen aspiration.
In 2016, 75% of IntoUniversity school leavers attained a university place, compared to 22% of students from a similar background nationally.
