$750,000 grant funding from 2017 to 2018
Evidence Action believes that access to water is not enough. Water may be safe at the wells and sources, but may not stay safe in transit and in homes.
The Dispensers for Safe Water programme treats water with point of collection dispensing of chlorine, a proven, low-cost water treatment solution. The focus of the programme is on sustainable service delivery, not a one-time hardware installation.
Through this approach, carbon credits are being generated because households no longer need fires to boil water and are being sold to generate revenues to cover on-going costs.
The Dispensers for Safe Water programme currently has over 27,000 dispensers installed across Kenya, Uganda and Rwanda and is providing 4.7 million people with access to safe water.
The Foundation’s funding is to support the sustainability of activities in Kenya.
